Amendments for Life
We offer a service where if you pay an additional £200 plus VAT we will amend your Will without further charge for the rest of your life.
Usually if you want to amend your Will you would sign what is called a codicil and this is kept with your Will. We charge for each codicil that we prepare but if you become a member of Amendments for Life you do not have to pay for any amendments that you ask us to make to your Will.
An example would be if you wanted to add a cash gift of, say, £500 to a charity or a family member.
The conditions of the service are:-
- If you have a Will prepared by us any amendments to that Will are free.
- If you decide that you need a new Will and this is also prepared by us any amendments to that will are also free.
- There is no limit on the amount of amendments you can make.
- If someone mentioned in your Will dies and you have not named an alternative beneficiary to receive the deceased's person’s share of your estate there is no need to amend your Will unless you do not want that person’s share of your estate to pass to your residuary beneficiaries.
We will advise you on the merits of any amendment and tell you whether it will affect the amount of inheritance tax payable, if any, from your estate.
If your previous Will is stored with us then your amended Will can be stored in its place and your old Will destroyed.
Understandably, if our advice is that you need a new Will and that an amendment would not be in your best interests and/or could cause problems with the administration of your estate then we may refuse to act. An example of this would be if a parent decided not to include their infant child as a beneficiary of their estate but the child was dependant on that parent. This could lead to costly and time consuming legal action against the estate.
If we do refuse to act then the additional sum paid for the service can be refunded at our discretion.
We reserve the right to refuse instructions.
In the unlikely event that in the future we no longer offer advice on and preparing Wills the additional sum paid will also be refunded at our discretion.
