Starting out in Business

We know that, when you start out in business, time and money are usually precious. Without you spending too much of either, we will advise you on the pros and cons of:

• operating as a sole trader
• setting up as a partnership or a limited liability partnership (LLP)
• incorporating as a limited company

This is an important decision - key issues are your personal liability and your tax position. Set-up costs, ongoing administration, publicity and perception are also likely to be important.

Once you have made your decision, we will help you get started. If you want to form a partnership or an LLP, we will advise you on the contents of the partnership agreement. If you have opted for a company, we will incorporate one on your behalf and discuss whether you need a shareholders' agreement.

And your first choice doesn't have to be final. As your new business grows, you will take on more commitments. So you may want to make the step-up from a sole trader to a company, or from a partnership to an LLP. Again, we can help you with this transition.
