Hi my name is David Johnson
Employment law, more than any other area of law, is constantly changing and evolving.
To this extent, I am often instructed to act as an extension to an organisation’s HR department, providing legal and practical advice on employment issues which affect them from the initial recruitment exercise to more complex disciplinary and grievance processes. I also:
- Draft and update employment documentation ranging from contracts of employment and Director Service Agreements to staff handbook and policies.
- Advise on the employment issues concerning business transfers and mergers and in particular an employer’s obligations to affected employees under the TUPE Regulations 2006.
- Advise on the enforceability of restrictive covenants.
- Offer in house training sessions to HR and Management on both updates in employment law and specific employment issues
I advise employees on a range of issues in the work place including:
- initial terms and conditions of employment and negotiating the same.
- Enforceability of restrictive covenants
- Unpaid bonuses
- Disciplinary and grievance procedures
- Negotiating severance packages and advising on the terms of compromise agreements
Clients have praised my ability to make decisions quickly and decisively, instilling immediate confidence and providing them with practical and commercial solutions in a personable and concise manner. I pride myself on my client relationships and exceeding clients’ expectations is my priority.
As well as advising on employment issues in the workplace, I have extensive experience acting for employees and employers in both the employment tribunal and employment appeal tribunal, receiving excellent results for clients; on many occasions succeeding at tribunal hearing or negotiating a beneficial settlement. I have conducted cases involving a range of issues including unfair dismissal, wrongful dismissal, whistleblowing, equal pay, discrimination because of a protected characteristic such as sex, race, disability, age, sexual orientation or religious belief, breach of contract and unlawful deduction from wages.
I like to spend my time away from the office, travelling the world and experiencing different cultures and cuisine. I have been fortunate enough to visit many parts of Europe, Asia and North America and have recently returned from an adventure fuelled holiday in the Canadian rocky mountains. Apart from travel, my other passions are skiing, music and for all my sins (and don’t hold this against me Gooner fans), Tottenham Hotspur.
