Family Department Financial Success

Following a 10 day High Court hearing, on 30 June we received judgement in trial to settle our client's claim for a financial settlement following divorce.  Our client faced losing her home if judgement went against her in a case which involved international business, bank accounts and Trusts.

We are delighted to announce that judgement went in favour of our client who was awarded a lump sum of just under £1 million including costs.

Bolt Burdon's Winning Netball Team

Last night was the first netball game of the 2006 season.

Pitched against a team of scientists from the National Institute for Medical Research, ambitiously known as "Shooting Stars", the Bolt Burdon team sailed through the game with a great winning score, 13-3.

This season we benefit from the return of Caroline Klage from our sister firm Bolt Burdon Kemp and Mel Morgan from our service firm Igloo, who were the only real "shooting stars" from last night, and of course we welcome back Mel Whittaker (BBK) who was rewarded with Player of the Match for her efforts!

Next update?  The next time we win of course!

Dual Qualification Success

Congratulation time!  After successfully completing the Qualified Lawyers Transfer Tests, Adam Greenup, who works in our Wills, Trust and Probate Department, has now qualified as a solicitor.  Adam originally qualified as a barrister and has now met the Law Society's requirements to enable him to make the switch to the 'other side'.  Achieving dual qualification is no mean feat, it is a great achievement and means we have our own in house advocate!  Well done Adam!

Our New Commercial Property Litigation Department

Helen Matthews joined us recently to set up our new Commercial Property Litigation Department at Bolt Burdon.  Helen has lived in Ilsington for many years but is enjoying meeting lots of new local business people and residents since her move here.

Helen comes from a City background and specialises in all aspects on contentious commercial property work such as business lease renewal, forfeiture and dilapidations.  She also deals with residential property problems including possession, rent arrears and service charge disputes.  In addition, Helen frequently acts for long leasehold flat owners wishing to exercise their right to a 90 year lease extension or, together with other flat owners, to buy the freehold.

To read more about Helen in the "people" section of our website click here.

BB in NYC

Following the success of the Three Peaks Challenge last year, on 5th November this year, an intrepid team from Bolt Burdon will take on the ING New York City Marathon.  To raise funds for our chosen charity, we are swapping the streets of Islington for 26.2 miles on the streets and bridges of New York's five boroughs - Staten Island, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Manhattan - before finishing in the world famous Central Park.  With around 35,000 runners from over 100 countries, and over 2 million spectators, the New York City Marathon is one of the world's great marathons and we will be there to experience it, first hand.  Watch this space for details of our chosen charity and information on how to sponsor our runners.
