Jo-Anne Graham

Originally from Northern Ireland, I moved across the water many years ago to study: first a law degree at Nottingham University and then a Masters in Corporate Law at Nottingham Law School.  I combined my studies with volunteering for the Citizens Advice Bureau, specialising in employment problems, and my dissertation was on Employment Law – 20,000 words!

In between, I spent a couple of months inter-railing/backpacking around Europe and realised that I loved travelling.  I have also been lucky enough to be able to spend twelve months away, on a ‘round the world’ trip.  I travelled across the United States of America, then around Australia, New Zealand and Asia.  During this time I also worked for Queensland Law Society for a few months.

I completed the Legal Practice Course at the College of Law in London and, after spending a few months working at Withers Solicitors, I started my training contract with Levenes Solicitors in North London.

I chose to specialise in Employment Law, in June 2002, as I enjoyed the wide range of cases.  I have a particular interest in discrimination cases, particularly disability discrimination, as a member of the DDA Representation and Advice Project.  In 2004 I co-wrote and edited the ‘Disability Discrimination Act Toolkit’, with David Ruebain of Levenes.

After a brief stint as a local authority lawyer for Kent County Council, I joined the Employment Team at Bolt Burdon in March 2006.  I still manage to find time for socialising, music and tennis; as well as being an ardent Liverpool fan – not easy when you work a stone’s throw away from the Gunners!
