Pauline Lam

I moved to London in 2000 after completing my law degree in Hong Kong. Upon arrival I worked as a paralegal in the Commercial Property Department of city firm CMS Cameron McKenna while studying the Legal Practice Course part time. I gained some invaluable experience whilst at Cameron's and acted for a number of institutional clients in the management aspects of their property portfolio. This allowed me to seize the opportunity to train at renowned city property litigation specialist Dewar Hogan during which I worked in and learnt about all areas of property litigation and was lucky to be involved in acting for corporations such as Tesco and Scottish Widows. I qualified in 2004 and was retained as assistant solicitor by the firm. I consolidated my experience there for a further eighteen months before I moved to medium-size regional firm Matthew Arnold & Baldwin in Watford. However the lure of London soon drew me back to take on a new challenge at Bolt Burdon’s recently formed Contentious Property Department in February 2007.

Having worked in property exclusively since the start of my professional life I specialise in all areas of contentious property including all landlord and tenant matters such as dilapidations, rent review, distress, forfeiture and possession, break options, business lease renewal, termination and surrender. I am also experienced in other property issues such as squatters’ proceedings, adverse possession, easements and prescriptive rights and property-related professional negligence.

Increasingly I am doing specific residential property work such as lease extension and collective enfranchisement and am now on the panel of solicitors for the government-supported Leasehold Advisory Service.

Outside of work I enjoy the vibrant entertainment that London has to offer and especially love trying out different restaurants and bars. On a healthier level I enjoy a good workout fencing and am a member of the London Fencing Club. I also like to twirl and stamp to a flamenco tune or two!
