Rachel Atherton

I relocated to London in October 2007 to join Bolt Burdon’s Company Commercial department. I work alongside Matthew Miller advising companies, partnerships and limited liability partnerships on all matters which arise throughout the lifetime of their business.

This includes advising on business structures at formation, drafting and advising on agreements affecting the business (such as shareholders’ agreements, partnership agreements, terms and conditions and other commercial agreements). If you wish to protect the identity of your business brand I have experience in trademark registration, copyright and advising on other intellectual property related issues.

I have advised on a large number of business sales and acquisitions (both through asset and share sales) covering a diverse range of businesses.

In terms of my academic career I studied Law at Oxford Brookes. After graduating I remained in Oxford for a year where I worked for a company which, at the time was the largest independent operator and owner of approximately 30 theatres around the UK including several in the West End. From Oxford I then went on to complete the Legal Practice Course at the College of Law in Chester.

I returned to my home town of Exeter in 1998 and began work at Stones in Exeter, one of the leading law firms in the South West. I remained at Stones until moving to Bolt Burdon.

Now that I’ve made it to the bright lights of London town I’m making the most of all that it has to offer and love being able to pop out to some music or theatre event after work or just hang out in one of the many bars or restaurants that are now on my doorstep!

When I get the opportunity I like to travel. Having not taken a gap year to explore the world I am now checking out the wonders of the world very slowly but surely through annual leave. In 2007 it was Belize and Guatemala and 2008 Australia (well Melbourne and Sydney!) and Thailand are booked in!
