Right to Buy
Eligibility
- Have you spent at least 2 years as a public sector tenant with a "Right to Buy" landlord, for example, a London Borough Council, a Housing Action Trust, or a District Council and your home is your only home?
- If YES, ask your landlord for the Right to Buy claim form. Your landlord must give you one free if you ask.
- Complete Form RTB 1 and return it to your landlord.
- Has your Landlord sent you Form RTB 2 (notice telling you if you have right to buy) or Section 125 notice (offer notice)?
- If not and you have the right to buy, you may be allowed a reduction on the purchase price. You will first need to complete a Form RTB 6 (initial notice of delay) and send it to your landlord. If no response within one month, you may send a second notice on Form RTB 8 (operative notice of delay).
- When you have decided to buy your home, you must tell your landlord in writing within 12 weeks of receiving your Section 125 notice (offer notice).
