Hi my name is Ryan Mowat
I completed my Law Degree and Legal Practice Course at De Montfort Universtity, Leicester in 1999. Somehow whilst I was at university I also managed to find time to spend two summers working on the Balearic Islands and even won a prize for the best dissertation in my final year.
Before settling down to a life in the legal fast lane, I went travelling around the world calling through Asia, Australia, the South Pacific and South America. I moved to London in 2000 to practice litigation at one of the largest firms in East London/Essex. I joined Bolt Burdon Solicitors in January 2005 in the litigation department. I am now a partner at Bolt Burdon and head of the dispute resolution team.
I enjoy the demands of litigation, particularly analysing the tactical/commercial considerations of each case and dealing with the pressures that arise from the Civil Procedure Rules. I also enjoy the opportunity trying other forms of resolving disputes such as mediation. I have represented many clients at mediation and I have now gained accreditation to act as a mediator in my own right.
I act for clients engaged in a wide range of individual and commercial disputes. I have particular expertise in representing business clients in partnership and shareholder disputes. I have also achieved notable successes in some high profile contractual disputes and in professional negligence claims against architects, surveyors, solicitors and accountants. In addition, I am experienced in other areas of litigation such as insurance claims, insolvency and probate disputes.
Every 6 months Bolt Burdon sends out questionnaires to clients to obtain feedback on the service that our solicitors provide. The responses about me recently include that I have provided an “excellent service”, that I have been “exemplary and highly professional” and that clients had “been treated with the utmost respect, been constantly kept up-to-date and informed and have achieved an outcome beyond our expectations considering the diversity of the case”.
I am always willing to go the extra mile for my clients. Litigation is generally a stressful and time consuming experience so I try to ease the pressure for my clients at every opportunity. This means evaluating all of the practical issues, judging each dispute on its own individual facts and then applying the law so as to help my clients achieve the best possible result from every claim.
