RYAN MOWAT

At 30 years old, I should be in my prime, feeling confident about running 26 miles around one of the greatest cities in the world. So, why is it that I'm petrified? It probably has something to do with the fact that I usually only ever run to the pub. Anyway, that is all about to change. I've found myself curiously looking into health magazines, reading up on training routes and parading round the house in my new running gear.

Fortunately, I've identified the weakest links in the Bolt Burdon group and I intend to hang onto them with dear life! Together with Adam and Ian (the trotters) we are about to break some records and stun the residents of London with our hard training this summer. It'll be Coe, Evett, and Cram times 26 miles by November. OK, reality check!!! The target now is for us to actually start training (I believe 'running club' starts Wednesday 31 May) and my only aim in November is to get round the course with some sort of smile on my face.

To make things more interesting (or embarrassing) I have stupidly agreed with Adam that we will be running the marathon in costumes. At the moment, Batman and Robin seem to be the favourite option (I get to be the bat) but we would welcome suggestions if it helps raise money for charity.

As a lover of football (or 'soccer' when in New York) I do have a certain level of fitness and I've been able to set up weekly 5 a side training for the Bolt Burdon boys to help improve fitness levels. We're available to meet any other local businesses for the occasional game so long as there are no serious injuries ruling us out of the big day on 5 November (no honestly I really don't want to miss it!).

So, the plan is in place, now all I need is action. But, this is one challenge I will be seeing through to the end especially given the great charity we are running for. Anyway, can you imagine the embarrassment of collapsing under my batman cape after less than 10 miles? It doesn't bare thinking about! So please donate and help us make a difference.
