Contacts, Cocktails and Cannes – Bolt Burdon’s first timers Guide to MIPIM

We recently announced that a team of lawyers from Bolt Burdon (Darren Coleran, Amie Mackay and I) are flying out to Cannes this year to experience MIPIM for the first time.

After hearing good things from many of our contacts, we felt that this was the year to explore what the French Riviera had to offer us at the “world’s leading property market”.

What is MIPIM?

For those who don’t know, MIPIM is a collection of events, conferences and exhibitions showcasing the key players across the global property market. Property professionals from all over the world descend to the South of France year on year to explore market trends, discuss future innovations and of course, to maintain and build relationships with other property professionals.

What are we Doing There?

Well, as this is our first year we were keen to explore all elements of MIPIM. We are sponsoring the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry stand (C15, the London Stand if you fancy a visit) along with several other big name sponsors. We’ve scheduled a number of meetings with key contacts, both new and existing and we’ve signed up to several of the networking events including cocktails, bacon sandwiches, 80’s parties and more.

With the help of the MIPIM Tough Guide (I’d highly recommend a look for those attending), I personally have also signed up to a networking run at 6am each morning along the sea front – the team have got bets on me attending but I can’t think of a better way to start the day.

What’s the Atmosphere Like?

This appears to depend on who you talk to. There’s no doubt that there is a strong business focus, people go to MIPIM to do business and it is predominantly focused on that. However, there’s also a lot of light-hearted networking events around. The advice I’ve been given is that it is what you make of it, some people go for four days of cocktails and good food, others are much more business focused. I suspect we’ll be striking a nice balance between the two!

And Finally, Who’s There?

Probably easier to ask who isn’t there! MIPIM attracts property professionals from all areas; construction, legal, architects, accountants, insurance brokers, political figures, investors, managing agents and more. If you keep an eye on LinkedIn and search #MIPIM2018 on twitter, many attendees are advertising who is going so if you see someone you want to know more about, get in touch. Similarly, if you want to meet up with us out there, all you have to do is ask.

Follow me (@SarahGoodallBB) on Twitter during MIPIM (12th March – 16th March) for an update on how we’re getting on out there as well as an honest insight into the event as a whole.
